We are COCOLICHE TRIO

About Us

Cocoliche is a language created by italian immigrants and argentinan locals in Buenos Aires, in the beginning of the 20th century.
Several words and expressions from it are still used nowadays on both sides of the Atlantic.
100 years later, the process reverts: argentinians and italians meet back in Europe, in the middle of an ultra globalized society.
We like to think our project as a result of all this mixture, same as our ancestors once experienced.
Spanish, italian, tango, jazz, latin, meeting back and transforming each other once again, creating a new common language, a new cocoliche: our music.

I am an argentinian-croatian pianist and composer based in the Netherlands. On top of my formal education being classical music and tango music-based, my curiosity always led me to explore new environments and possibilities in my artistic life. I consider myself a creative performer: I am a pianist who aims to create and play her own music and develop her own music style.

Professionally I have participated as a pianist, arranger and/or composer in many different ensembles internationally: from classical, to tango and jazz/world. I won several prizes and subsidies from national and international institutions, such as Instituto Nacional de la Música, Scholarship Scaramuzza’s piano technique in WKMT studios London, Holland Scholarship by the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science, Grada Van Beek-Donner Scholarship, Fonds Podium Kunsten NL, Stichting Droom en Daad, SENA Fonds, Gemeente Rotterdam, and Amartefonds.

Currently I perform as bandleader, pianist and composer/arranger of Quinteto Irreal and Cocoliche Trio as well as my own interdisciplinary project “SmartMusic! An Audiovisual Adventure” mixing tango, latin american rhythms and jazz/funk music.

Since 2018 I live in Rotterdam, Netherlands, where I became a Master of Music in World Music (piano tango/jazz composition) at CODARTS University of Arts, where I currently work as an Artistic Research Coach from the Masters Tango and Performance Practice Departments.

I also work as a freelance pianist, composer and arranger, collaborating with ensembles and artists around the world.

Luis Mora Matus is a Chilean drummer/composer currently living in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. At the moment, Luis is doing a Ph.D. in the Arts at the Koninklijk Conservatorium Brussel and the Vrije Universiteit Brussel.

The focus of his research is the expansion of contemporary jazz soloing vocabulary by adapting tools and techniques from contemporary progressive metal.

As a performing musician, he has recorded over 20 albums. He is currently working with the Dutch/Polish band Quantum Trio, the Colombian/Curaçaoan singer Juliana Martina, the contemporary jazz band Plink, the Italian avant-garde pianist Piergiorgio Pirro, the South-American instrumental folk Cocoliche Trio, and many others. One of those ideas is called “Classical Jazz Drumming,” in which he plays along to classical pieces and reinterprets them as they were contemporary jazz pieces.
